About
The name NiftyFifty comes from the 50mm f/1.8 lens that can be bought for many cameras, but for the two self-proclaimed food photographers – Vasili and Lucy – it’s for their trusty Nikon DSLR. Vasili bears the Nikon D90 while Lucy clings to her Nikon D60. NiftyFifty also means something a little different to the two, it’s their little food blog. It’s a place for them to share their love for food and photography, share recipes with their readers, find new recipes, and meet food enthusiasts like them!
They do their best to keep the site updated with regular, delicious recipes, but sometimes they just are not feeling the moment with their clients. Sometimes the light does not want to work with the food and just makes the food look rather uninteresting. However, most of the recipes that they find absolutely Out Of This World Super Deliciously Amazing are added within a couple hours of licking the plate clean.
The Obsessed Baker: Vasili
It does not take a long time for me to get something in the oven when I find that scrumptious sounding baked good recipe. It’s a matter of hours sometimes before I shove that thing in the oven and watch it meticulously until I can finally slice/rip/devour it. I normally bake more than cook because I generally have the ingredients on hand for say scones instead of a stir-fry, and it does not help that I do not like going to the store when I want to make something right then.
If I am not in the kitchen, taking pictures, or waiting for something in the kitchen to finish doing something I am usually on the computer. I really enjoy to program and design websites in my free time. If I happen to not be on the computer I will either be hanging out with my friends or doing another one of the ten thousand hobbies I have. That could be knitting, reading a random book, or playing some Halo 3.
The Sweet Tooth: Lucy
I’ve had a love affair with baking ever since my husband joined the military. I was left alone in our huge apartment for six months. So, I started baking in order to keep myself busy. I baked cakes, cookies, brownies, and pies for my neighbors and friends. While it’s difficult for me to bake the more intricate desserts, due to lack of proper baking equipment, I’m always looking for new and challenging recipes to try. Standing in front of the oven, watching my delicious creation bake away, is just about my favorite thing in the world. The smells that permeate the kitchen are what I love best.
When I’m not baking something in the kitchen, I will be working on lesson plans and exciting activities for my kids. I am an elementary school teacher, and there is never a dull moment in what I do. I enjoy a plethora of things; I love reading books, spending time with the husband and our friends, playing Modern Warfare 2, and taking photographs. I have a “ferocious” Chi named Beast. He makes the afternoons fun, and I always look forward to our afternoon naps together.
